Historical Venice
Tourists to this historical city are bowled over by the elegant Venetian buildings and palaces which gaze over narrow ancient streets. You will find Venice to be a unique city where tourists love to flock to be able to experience its peerless charisma. If you wander through the romantic back streets and housing quarters you will learn more about the intimate side of Venice. The six quarters of the historic city are San Marco, Dorsoduro, San Polo, Santa Croce, Cannaregio and Castello. The Grand Canal intersects each district and is the main thoroughfare extending from the railway station to San Marco. You can cruise the waterways by traveling on motorboat buses called vaporetti. You are sure to find this a more exciting alternative to walking the streets of Venice. The vaporetti is an inexpensive substitute for the famous gondolas. The gondolas cross the canal at regular intervals to provide a romantic break to the tourism route. As a tourist to Venice you will invariably visit St Marks Square which is the nucleus of Venice. The Palazzo Ducale, the first citadel and the Basilica di San Marco, the first church have been erected on its stony foundations. The Pala dOr decorated with prized gems is the Basilicas most precious relic. The Piazza is flocked with tourists and pigeons. Along the streets of the square you will come across designer shops. A Venice tour would be incomplete if you did not visit the Basilica dei Frari, the great Gothic Franciscan church constructed in the 14th century. Beautiful works of renowned artists adorn the interior of the church.
